Well-rounded offense leads to win for Trolls

The Trinity women's volleyball team made their way to Milwaukee today as they prepared to face conference opponent Cardinal Stritch on their home turf. After a hard-fought match, the Trolls came out on top, sweeping the Wolves 3-0.

In the first set, the two teams battled, going neck and neck throughout most of the set. But ultimately, it was the Trolls who secured the win 25-18.

The second set began with the Trolls leading, but the Wolves fought their way back into the set. And even with the comeback they made towards the end, it wasn't enough. Trinity took the set 25-23, putting them up 2-0 in the match.

The third set was a different narrative for the Wolves. The Trolls took the lead early, and Cardinal Stritch was not able to recover. The Trolls won the third set 25-14.

Three players earned double-digit kills for the Trolls. Seniors Anna Maatman and Ana Lambros led the offensive effort. Maatman hit .440 (14 kills, 3 errors, 25 attempts) on the night while Lambros secured 11 kills and 16 digs, resulting in a double-double. Sophomore Sarah Kiwan also added 10 kills to the stat sheet.

Along with those three, junior Dani Van Laten led the team in assists with 35 and also added 12 digs.

The team will have the rest of the week off from competition before coming back to DeVos Gymnasium on Sept. 24 to play Calumet College of St. Joseph. The first serve will take place at 7 p.m.
