Taylor, Mbuyi score for Trolls to beat Cougars 4-3

The Trinity men's soccer team faced the University of St. Francis Cougars today, and came out with a win.

St. Francis took an early lead when Ethan Vigario scored in the first two minutes of the game. But that didn't bring the Trolls down.

Junior Justin Taylor fired a shot on goal in the 24th minute and slipped it past the Cougars' goalie, tying up the score. From there, a corner kick from Trinity went off a St. Francis player and into the goal, giving the Trolls a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short lived. A minute later, the Cougars reciprocated with a goal from Julian Colantonio, evening up the score at the half.

But once the first half was over and the players stepped back on the field for the second, the Trolls were not holding back.

They came out in the second half on fire, scoring two goals in the 45th minute. Sophomore Manasse Mbuyi and Taylor both scored goals, helping the Trolls' lead 4-2.

St. Francis' Michael McLelland was able to get another goal in the back of the net for his team, but it wasn't enough. The Trolls topped the Cougars 4-3.

Along with Taylor's two goals and Mbuyi's one, senior Gabe Soler recorded an assist while Marcos Shimizu and Emmanuel Iradukunda both got two shots on goal, putting pressure on the Cougars' defense.

Trinity has some time off before hitting the field again. They will be back in action against head coach Eric Salley's alma mater Taylor University on Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m.
