The Trinity men's and women's golf teams competed in their first tournament of the 2019 season at the Fall Tiger Invitational hosted by Olivet Nazarene University.
The two-day tournament, which took place on Sept. 6 and 7, was held at Kankakee Elks Golf Course in St. Anne, Ill. At the end of the tournament, the men finished in eighth out of 10 teams while the women finished in fifth out of five.
For the men, junior Pete Vos led the way, shooting 79 on Friday and 81 on Saturday for a combined total of 160 for the two days. Senior Bob Schaaf also contributed an 86 on Friday and a team-low 78 on Saturday to finish with a 164 for the two days. Junior Nate Kamp also finished with an 81 on Friday and 84 on Saturday for a 165 overall.
On the women's side, senior Merina Miner led the Trolls on the green, shooting 84 on Friday and 100 on Saturday, finishing with a total of 184. Freshman Ashley Keen also helped the Trolls during the first tournament of her collegiate career, shooting 101 on Friday and 94 on Saturday to finish with a 195 for both days.
The men's team will be back on the green again Sept. 10 as they head to the University of St. Francis while the women head to Benedictine University on Sept. 13 for their next tournament.
