Oeverman and VanLaten Receive Player of the Week Honors

With a 4-1 record for the week the Trolls picked up two CCAC Volleyball Player of the Week honors for September 3-9.  Senior middle hitter Danielle Oeverman (Byron Center, Michigan) was named Attacker of the Week and sophomore setter Dani VanLaten (Westmont, Illinois) was Setter of the Week.

Oeverman was a strong presence at the net for the Trolls in their five matches of the week. Offensively she had an impressive .425 attacking percentage with 46 kills and only nine errors in 87 total attempts. She averaged 2.71 kills per set for the week. She had a match high of 13 kills in a four-set win over Clarke University (Iowa).

Oeverman also helped the team defensively as she led the team with a total of 13 blocks for a 0.76 block per set average. Five of her blocks were solos and eight were assisted. Her weekly high came with five assisted blocks against Avila University (Missouri).

For her notable performance, Oeverman was named to the Clarke University Invitational All-Tournament Team.  

VanLaten was the force behind the team’s .232 attacking percentage in the week’s five matches. She handed out 178 assists for a 10.47 assist per set average. In four of the five matches, she averaged 10-plus assists per set. Twice in the week, she recorded more than 40 total assists, including a week high of 47 assists in a four-set win over Clarke.

In addition, VanLaten led the team with a total of nine service aces for the week. Five of those aces came in the Trolls’ opening conference win over Governors State University (Illinois). She also picked up 51 digs for a 3.0 dig per set average and had at least one kill in each match.


The Trolls opened their week with a win at Governor State and were 3-1 in the Clarke University Invitational. In that weekend event they defeated Clarke, Avila, and Mount Mercy University (Iowa) and fell to No. 14 Northwestern College (Iowa). The team is 7-6 for the season.
