Trolls Cruise by Jaguars in CCAC Opener

The Trolls opened their conference schedule with a match at Governors State University (University Park, Illinois). Trinity eased by the Jaguars and won the match in three sets at 25-11, 25-20, and 25-9. The team got production from a large majority of the roster to control the match. The team is 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the CCAC.

In the opening match Trinity took control early and behind a serving run by Brianna Figueroa jumped to an 8-2 lead. Later in the match Dani Van Laten rolled off five straight points of which three came from ace serves to give the team a 21-8 lead. The Trolls finished out with the 25-11 win.

Trinity fell behind early in the second match and trailed 8-3. They closed the gap to 12-9 and took the lead on a five point run to make it 14-12. The Trolls continued to pull away and reached set point at 24-18. They were held for two points until a kill by Danielle Oeverman put the set away.

The Trolls used a number of serving runs to cruise to the lopsided win in the third set. They had a 9-2 lead that increased to 17-5. Overall Trinity held the Jaguars to under 10 points for the set.

Trinity ended with 36 kills and a .333 attacking percentage. Lydia Smits led the team with nine kills and a .553 attacking percentage. Oeverman had eight kills, a .636 attacking percentage, and three blocks. Kacie Stoll also had eight kills and led the team with four blocks. Anna Maatman contributed seven kills with an impressive .667 attacking percentage. Van Laten ended the match with 28 assists, five aces, and four digs.

The Trolls continue action on September 8-9 in the Clarke University Invitational.
