Tori Rivas Earns Weekly Soccer Honor

Tori Rivas (Pasadena, California) was named the NCCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 3-9.  For the week the senior defender helped the team to two victories to maintain their undefeated record at 6-0. In the wins Rivas was a part of the defensive squad that allowed only one goal, which came in a 2-1 overtime win over Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), and posted a 2-0 shut-out over Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, Michigan).

In addition to her defensive contributions, Rivas also played an important offensive role in both games of the week. With a long arching pass she assisted the game-winning overtime goal against Aquinas.  In the Cornerstone game she scored the team’s first half goal from a free kick. It was the first goal of her college career.

For the season the Trolls have allowed only three goals while scoring 27. They also have posted three shut-outs.  With their 6-0 record the team is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and is ranked No. 3 in the NCCAA DI Women’s Soccer Top 10.
