Softball Players Earn Post-Season Honors

After a successful season in which the Trolls nearly doubled the number of wins from the year before and qualified for the conference tournament, a number of players received special recognition. The team had two players earn all-conference honors, three athletes named to the NCCAA All-Region Team, and five players named to scholar-athlete lists.

Leading the way were sophomores Dara Megyesi (Washington, Illinois) and Jamie Budreau (Kendallville, Indiana). Megyesi, a pitcher, was named CCAC All-Conference Second Team and NCCAA North Central All-Region. In addition she made the CCAC All-Tournament Team. Throughout the season Megyesi led the team with a 2.63 ERA in 133 innings pitched.  She registered 98 strike-outs and ranked third in the conference in strike-outs per game. Megyesi ended the season with an
11-11 record.

Budreau was the starting third baseman and a significant part of the batting line-up. She led the team with a .388 batting average that included 47 hits of which eight were doubles, one was a triple, and three were home runs. She also was first on the team with 25 RBI. Along with Megyesi, Budreau was CCAC All-Conference Second Team as well as NCCAA All-Region.

Also on the NCCAA All-Region Team was senior team captain Emily Phillips (Tampico, Illinois). Phillips played both right field and second base during the season and posted a .946 fielding percentage.  In addition she had a .333 batting average with 36 hits, including three doubles and two triples.

Megyesi and Phillips were also among the student-athlete honors for academic success.  They, along with sophomores Chloe McRobbie (Kendallville, Indiana) and Melinda Russell (Bourbonnais, Illinois) and junior Katelyn Sena (McHenry, Illinois), will be named to the CCAC All-Academic Team.  Phillips is also a NCCAA Scholar-Athlete as is Sena, who will receive honors at the NAIA level as well.

The Trolls ended their season with an 18-22 overall record and finished in eighth place in the conference with a 9-15 record.
