Trinity Defeats Purdue-Northwest

The Trolls started their final week of the regular season with a victory at Purdue University-Northwest (Westville, Indiana). The team built a sizable half-time lead and had to hold off a comeback attempt by the Pride in the second half to secure the victory. In the end Trinity posted an 87-74 victory and is now 12-16 overall and 7-13 in the CCAC.

Trinity jumped to a 7-0 start and midway through the first half had a 20-5 lead. The Trolls held the Pride to single digits until 6:30 left in the half and by that time they had a 26-10 lead. At the intermission Trinity was ahead 39-25.

The scoring gap remained in double digits through the first seven minutes of the second period. Purdue-Northwest staged a run and cut the difference to three points at 53-50 with 9:35 left. Trinity sustained the rally and scored the next seven points to create a 10 point gap again. It became a four point game again at 70-66 when the Pride outscored the Trolls 16-to-10 over the next five minutes. Trinity again held off the Pride and secured the victory on the free throw line, where they were 23-of-32 in the half.

For the game the Trolls shot .481 percent from the field, .429 percent from the arc, and .737 percent (28-of-38) from the line. Purdue-Northwest shot .394 percent from the floor, .185 percent from three-point line, and .708 percent from the line. Trinity controlled the boards with 47 rebounds and the Pride has 30. Jordan Perry led the team with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Caleb Jonkman had 14 points, Juozas Balcuinas ended with 13, Myles Birgans chipped in 12, and Trey Johnson added 11. Johnson and Birgans each had six rebounds while Balciunas had five assists and Christian Cantu had six.

The Trolls host Calumet College of St. Joseph in their final game of the season on February 18 at 3 pm.
