Trolls Earn Post-Season Honors

At the conclusion of the season, post-season honors have been awarded to members of the baseball team.  The Trolls had five players named to the CCAC All-Conference teams, five players received NCCAA North Central All-Region honors, and seven players earn scholar-athlete recognition.

Earning multiple honors was senior catcher Zack Jones (Norridge, Illinois).  He was named First Team All-Conference, CCAC Gold Glove Team, and NCCAA All-Region Team. For the season Jones posted a .357 batting average with a total of 55 hits, including 16 doubles, one triple, and nine home runs. With 33 walks he led the team with a .485 on-base percentage. From behind the plate he had a .987 fielding percentage and threw out 16 of 31 stolen base attempts.  Jones also pitched in 12 games as closer and recorded five saves while striking out 19 batters in 16 innings pitched.

Senior Stefano Belmonte (Schererville, Indiana), the starting third baseman, made a difference in his one season with the team. He led the team and was a leader in the conference with a .415 batting average and a .707 slugging percentage. He was first on the team with 78 hits, 25 doubles, and 66 RBI. In addition he had 10 home runs of which two were grand slams. Belmonte ranked in the top three in the conference in batting average, hits, home runs, doubles, RBI, and total bases. He was named CCAC All-Conference First Team, NCCAA All-Region, and Region Player of the Year.  

Also with First Team All-Conference honors was senior second baseman Alec Barnhart (Hometown, Illinois). For the season he had a .320 batting average with 48 hits, including 12 doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs. He set a new school season record in home runs. In addition he had 42 RBI.  

Junior Tyler Sroczynski (Dyer, Indiana), an outfielder, was named All-Conference Second Team, NCCAA All-Region, as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District. For the season he had a .356 batting average with 67 hits of which 19 were doubles, two were triples, and four were home runs. He was a threat on the base path and led the team with 55 runs and with 31 steals, which was the most in the conference and school season record.

Another Second Team All-Conference and NCCAA All-Region member was junior Richard Yelnick (New Lenox, Illinois). As a starting pitcher Yelnick threw 58.2 innings and led the team with a 3.22 ERA. He pitched eight complete games and recorded 51 strike-outs. He ended the season with a 5-2 record and two shut-outs.

Senior starting pitcher Tanner Reklaitis (Sheboygan, Wisconsin) was also named to the NCCAA All-Region Team. He logged a total of 53.2 innings with nine starts during the season.  He led the team with 61 strike-outs and ranks first in Trinity’s records book in career strike-outs. Overall Reklaitis had a 4.02 ERA and a 3-2 record for the season.

Jones, Sroczynski, and Reklaitis will also receive scholar-athlete honors at the NAIA, NCCAA, and CCAC levels. Joining them will be seniors Lance Lammers (Centennial, Colorado), Tyler Fortier (Oak Lawn, Illinois), Blake Timmer (Hudsonville, Michigan), and junior Kyle VanKalker (Dyer, Indiana). Senior Ricky Rogers (Palos Hills, Illinois) will be on the CCAC All-Academic Team.  

The Trolls finished the season with a 22-27 overall record and a 10-17 conference record.
