Trinity Competes at Blackthorn

The Trolls played in one of the largest matches of the season as they were one of 14 teams in the Bethel College Battle at Blackthorn in South Bend, Indiana. The team struggled on the difficult course and after a 429 on the first day they were in 14th place. They made an improvement on the second day, but did not move up in the final standings.

The results of the match also counted as a part of the NCCAA North Central tournament for Trinity, Bethel, and Judson University. Bethel ended up taking first place and took the region title.

The top two golfers for the Trolls made significant improvements from the first to the second 18 holes. Ashley Martinez shot a 104 on Friday and was in a tie for 63rd place in the field of 70 golfers. She improved by 14 strokes for a 90 on Saturday and ended in 57th place. Merina Miner had the team’s low score with in the first round with a 102 and was in 62nd place. She had a 97 in the second round and moved up one place to 61st.  

The other golfers for the team were Sara Blauw with a 225, Racyne Johnson with a 232, and Abby Leo with a 245.

The team competes next on September 25 at Aurora College.
