Coach Jackie Manrique has secured a number of quality student-athletes for her 2018-19 recruiting class. The following individuals have decided to attend Trinity and have signed letters of intent indicating their commitment to play on the softball team.  The members of the new recruiting class will be a positive addition to the softball program and to the campus.

 Katie Demas
Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

High School: Lawrence North High School

Softball Background: Was a four-year varsity starter at Lawrence North.  Played for Indy Edge travel team

Awards and Achievements:  Was named the 2015 Defensive Player of the Year.  Earned All-County Honorable Mention and Offensive Player of the Year recognition in 2016. Received All-Conference honors and a Mental Attitude Award in 2017. Is on the Distinguished Honor Roll and in the top 10% of her class in 2018.  

Coach Manrique comment:  “Katie is a great athlete who will use her defensive abilities across the entire diamond. She brings versatility and a positive attitude.  Her relationship with God and commitment to her faith are bar none. I look forward to watching Katie grow in the next four years at Trinity.”

Intended Major: social work/communications

Family: Parents - Steve and Suzanne Demas; Sibling - Ali

Alissa Gardenal
Hometown: Walnut Creek, California

High School: Las Lomas High School

Softball Background: Was a four-year varsity starter at Las Lomas.  Played for Bears Softball Association for five years and Lady Magic for one.  

Awards and Achievements:  Earned First-Team All-League honors.  Is a scholar-athlete. Received a Character Recognition Award.

Coach Manrique comment: “Alissa is a very bright student and a well achieved athlete. I am confident she will make a positive impact in our infield from the start. I am excited to watch Alissa succeed as a Troll!”

Intended Major: Nursing

Family: Parents – John and Susan Gardenal; Sibling- Ashley Gardenal.

Audrey Hanouw
Hometown: Minooka, Illinois

Previous School:  Heartland Community College (Normal, Illinois)

High School: Minooka Community High School  

Softball Background: Is in her second season at Heartland Community College.  Ended her freshman season with a .455 batting average and a .709 slugging percentage. Played for New Lenox Lightning travel team.

Awards and Achievements: Earned Academic All- Conference and Academic All-American at Heartland Community.

Coach Manrique comment: “Audrey brings experience in college athletics to Trinity. She knows what to expect and has played a very competitive schedule while at Heartland CC. With her past success at the plate, I am confident that Audrey will see positive results as a Troll in her final two seasons of eligibility.”

Intended Major: elementary education

Family: Parents – Brent and Jane Hanouw; Sibling- Luke Hanouw

Haleigh Loschen
Hometown: Tolono, Illinois

High School: Unity High School

Softball Background: Played for 16u Charleston Power travel team

Awards and Achievements:  Was named MVP of a 2017 summer travel team tournament.  Was on a first place NSA 1U South Illinois State Championship team and a second place USSSA 16U, Louisville Slugger team.  Is an honor roll student.

Coach Manrique comment: “Haleigh is one of those athletes who fit into our Trinity community the second she stepped on campus. Her positive attitude is evident in her every day communication and in her hard work on the field. Haleigh will bring solid fundamentals and additional versatility to our lineup in the years to come.”

Intended Major: social work

Family: Parents – Jay and Tracy Loschen; Sibling- Hunter

Alexandra Mendoza
Hometown:  Westmont, Illinois

High School: Westmont High School

Softball Background: Played three years of varsity softball at Westmont.  Played four years at the Bulls/Sox Academy.

Awards and Achievements: Earned Interstate Eight All-Conference and All-Area Honorable Mention recognition. Was a Home Run Derby champion.  Was a national speed pitch competition winner for 12U (60 mph). Played in a Chicago Bandits High School All-Star game. Was on the honor roll twice and high honor roll once.

Coach Manrique comment: “Alix is an incredibly talented pitcher. She is a model teammate and those around her have an abundance of great things to say about her character. Our program is very fortunate to welcome Alix.”

Other: Is a SADD club member

Intended major: nursing or exercise science

Family: Parents - Jim and Karri Mendoza; Sibling - James Mendoza

Sydni Mitchell
Hometown:  Oswego, Illinois

High School: Oswego East High School

Softball Background:  Is a three-year varsity player at Oswego East High School. Plays third and first base for Bulls/Sox Academy.  

Awards and Achievements:  Helped her team set the freshmen team record for wins at Oswego East High School.  Aided her varsity team to a regional championship. Is an Honor Roll student.  

Coach Manrique comment: “Sydni initially caught our attention for her great bat. As we got to know her, we began to understand what a great person she is as well and that she is exactly the kind of athlete we want for our program. I look forward to watching Sydni excel as a Trinity Troll.”

Other:  Played varsity basketball for two years at Oswego East. Is a part of Mu Alpha Theta, a math honors society at Oswego East.  

Intended major:  early childhood education or elementary education
