Head basketball coach Bill DeRuiter is building his 2017-18 roster and has signed a number of incoming players.  His new recruiting class includes a strong group of high school seniors as well as a transfer student who have committed to attend Trinity and play for the Trolls. The new players will join his current squad of nine returning players and will be a positive addition to the team and to Trinity.



Ally Giampapa
Hometown:  Bartlett, Illinois

Previous Schools:Olivet Nazarene University (IL), Davenport University (MI)

High School:  Bartlett High School

Basketball Background: Is a guard. Played in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons at Olivet Nazarene University;  Played at Bartlett High School; Played AAU for the Shooting Stars and Illinois Connection

Awards and Achievements:  At Olivet Nazarene - earned 2015-16 CCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention  status; At Bartlett High School – named All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State Honorable Mention and was her team’s MVP.

Coach DeRuiter comment:  “Ally brings a high level of knowledge and experience to our team right away.  She fits perfectly into our scheme and makes those around her better.  The work ethic she brings to Trinity will continue to help us get better!”

Ally chose Trinity because:  “I wanted to attend a Christian college closer to home.”

Intended Major: Psychology

Valerie Guzman
Hometown:  Braidwood, Illinois

High School:  Reed Custer High School

Basketball Background: Played a forward position at Reed Custer; Played AAU for Example Sports

Awards and Achievements:  named All-Conference in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons; was All-State Honorable Mention; was named to the All-Tournament Team

Coach DeRuiter comment:  “Val has played a lot of minutes over the past couple of years and brings a desire to continue to improve and help those around her do the same.  She is flexible enough to play a variety of positions and I’m really looking forward to see how she’ll contribute as a Troll on campus next year.”  

Valerie chose Trinity because: “I chose Trinity because my visit here was amazing. The environment and people were very friendly and respectful.”

Intended Major:  Elementary Education

Alyssa Mulligan
Hometown:  La Porte, Indiana

High School:  New Buffalo High School

Basketball Background:  Played forward for New Buffalo; Played AAU for Hoosier Premier and NWI Thunder

Awards and Achievements: earned First Team All-Conference honors twice and was All-State Honorable Mention; named to the BCS All-Academic Team; was her team’s MVP for two seasons; played on a 2012 AAU Division III National Champion Team and a 2016 American Youth Basketball Tour National Champion Team

Coach DeRuiter comment:  “I’m really excited about what Alyssa will bring as a Troll!  She is a top academic student and carries that success over to the basketball court.  Her post presence will be felt and I’m looking forward to seeing her grow as a person and a player over the next four years!”

Ellie Stevens

Basketball Background:  Played center at Central Catholic; Played AAU for Example Sports

Awards and Achievements:  named Second Team All-Conference

Coach DeRuiter comment:  “Ellie has experienced a lot of success in her high school career.  She knows what it takes to win and I know that will translate well here at Trinity.  Ellie brings a huge smile with her and I’m really excited to see her get involved at Trinity and make an impact in everything she does.”

Ellie chose Trinity because:  “During my visit at Trinity and walking around campus, it just felt right. I was happy with everything I saw and I could see myself attending Trinity. I chose Trinity because of the confidence I gained from their staff and the location of being close to home.”

Intended Majors:  Exercise Science and Entrepreneurship

Megan Stubbs
Hometown:  Pleasant Hill, Iowa

High School:  Grand View Christian High School

Basketball background:  Played for Grand View High School; Played for AAU Team Iowa Cornsharks

Awards and Achievements:  earned First Team All-Conference honors for three seasons; was All-District and All-Region; named Iowa Newspaper Association All-State Third Team; was IBCA All State Second Team;  selected as an Elite All-Star Team member; ranked third in Iowa in scoring in the 2016-17 season.

Coach DeRuiter comments:  “Megan’s passion for basketball is second to none!  She is a complete gamer and is always looking to get better.  She is also a top notch student and strives for perfection in everything she does.  Her presence will be felt immediately as she steps on campus and I’m thrilled to see how she develops as a Troll throughout the next few years!”

Awards and Achievements:  named All-Conference in 2014 and 2016

Coach DeRuiter comment:  “Lexi is a very smart girl who will thrive at Trinity.  She is a great athlete that will be able to compete for minutes on the court.  I am eager to see the impact she will make right away on campus as a Troll!”

Alexis chose Trinity because: “Trinity offered the Christian community that I was looking for in a college, as well as the academic program that I am interested in. The professors truly care about their students as individuals, and not just as a number.”
