Trolls Claim NCCAA Region Championship Title
The Trolls defended their NCCAA North Central Region title with a victory over Bethel College (Mishawaka, Indiana) in the region championship match. Trinity won the match in three straight sets at 25-18, 25-13, and 25-23. As the region championships the team advances to the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida on November 29 – December 1.
Trinity set the tone for the match in the first set as they had 11 kills with no errors in 30 attempts. Tied at 10-10 they went on a six to one run to widen the gap to 16-11. They did not let the Pilots back into the set and at 22-18 finished out with kills by Lauren Macadlo and Betsy Holman and an ace serve by Erynn Schuh.
The Trolls grabbed control of the second set midway through the set. With a 10-10 tie Trinity allowed Bethel only three more points for the set. A six point run with Karliegh Krchmery serving created a 20-12 score that the team took to the 25-13 win.
Trinity had to come from behind at the start of the third set, but, as with the first two sets, the score was tied at 10-10. A couple of hitting errors by Bethel gave the Trolls a slight lead and the edge they needed to control the set. Trinity took a 23-19 lead before Bethel made a run to tie the game at 23-23. The Trolls held them off and scored the final two points to take the set and the match.
For the match the Trolls had 40 kills with a .296 hitting percentage. Kaitlin Feddema led the team with 14 kills and 13 digs. Betsy Holman had eight kills and three blocks for the match. Taylor Lee added seven kills and Ellie Raebel had 10 digs.
The tournament teams, seeding, and schedule will be announced on Monday, November 19.
