Trolls Upset Judson in Region Championship
Only 24 hours after an upset victory in the semifinal round of the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament, the Trolls did it again. This time they defeated the top seed and host school Judson University (Elgin, Illinois) with a score of 2-1. With the victory Trinity claims the title as region champions and advances to the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, on November 28-December 1.
The Trolls took control of the game in the first half with two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. Trinity had six corner kicks in the first half and gained both goals on those opportunities. The first score came at the 7th minute and was scored by Hannah Petroelje. Five minutes later Rachael Webb converted the corner kick pass to give the team the 2-0 lead. Bekah Gonzales is responsible for the placement of both of those corner kicks and thus got both assists.
Judson, a team ranked in the NAIA top 25 through most of the season, pushed hard in the second half to stay in the game. While they had two shots in the first period, they attempted eight in the second. At the 73rd minute they made one of those shots count to close the gap to 2-1. However it was not enough to overtake the Trolls.
For the game both teams ended with 10 shots. Becky Gold recorded four saves.
Information regarding the qualifying teams, seeding, and schedule for the NCCAA National Championship will be announced on Monday, November 19.
