Trolls Fall to Judson

In a home conference match the Trolls hosted Judson University (Elgin, Illinois). The first outing between these two teams went to five sets before Trinity captured the win. Trinity did not fare as well this time around and lost in three sets. The Trolls gained one extra point each set with final scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-19. With the loss the team is 10-9 overall and fall below the .500 mark in the conference for the first time at 5-6.

Trinity started out strong with a 7-3 lead in the first set, but was out-scored 9-to-3 over the next stretch to fall behind at 12-10. The Trolls remained close at 16-13, but again allowed Judson to rally off points and create a 22-14 gap. In the end the final scoring difference was eight at 25-17.

With only five kills in the second set the Trolls could not find their rhythm. Like the first set the Trolls went on top early at 7-4, but gave up scoring runs to trail at 14-9. The Eagles continued to pull away and kept the Trolls from gaining ground.  Judson hit set point at 24-16 and after committing two errors they finished the set on a kill.

In the third set Trinity doubled their kills from the previous set and midway through play the score was tied at 12-12. A series of errors by the Trolls allowed Judson to pull ahead at 19-13. Trinity tried to keep the set alive, but could not string together points and eventually lost by six.

For the match the Trolls had 24 kills with a .073 attacking percentage and Judson had 41 kills with a .353 attacking percentage. Eddie Binion led the team with 11 kills while Djordje Novakovic had seven.  Danny Lawrence, Dan Ryan, and Jake Ostema were all involved in three blocks each. Ben Tocila led the dig column with nine.

The Trolls will host the Trinity/Saint Xavier Crossover on March 22-23. Trinity plays Cumberland University on Friday at 7 pm and Mount Mercy University on Saturday at 10 am.
