Trolls Ease by V-Hawks

For the second time this season the Trolls defeated Viterbo University (La Crosse, Wisconsin) in a conference match. In a match played at Saint Xavier University, Trinity took care of the V-Hawks in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-12. With the win the team remains in the top half of the CCAC standings with a 5-4 record. They are 10-7 overall.

A four point run early in set one gave the Trolls a 9-5 lead. From there Trinity continued to pull away as they picked up points in groups. The gap got as wide as nine points late in the match and it was a nine point difference at the end of the set at 25-16.

Trinity held the lead from the beginning of the second set. The point spread was only a couple of points until the Trolls gained a 20-15 advantage. The team was still up by five at 23-18 and, after the teams traded points, Trinity took the win on a Vitero attacking error.

The Trolls started the third match with an 8-2 run and never looked back as they limited the V-Hawks’ points. By the time Viterbo reached double digits, the Trolls were ahead at 22-10. Trinity finished out with a 25-12 win.

For the match the Trolls ha a total of 34 kills, with Jake Ostema leading the team with 10 kills in 15 attempts. Djordje Novakovic ended with nine kills. Danny Lawrence handed out 27 assists and had seven digs. Adam Becker also recorded seven digs. Defensively at the net Jonathan Poortinga and Lawrence had three blocks each.

The Trolls play next on March 14 at Robert Morris University at 7 pm.
