Post-Season Honors for Men’s Volleyball Team

At the conclusion of the season, post-season awards are given out by the conference. As a team, the Trolls were honored with the men’s volleyball CCAC Champions of Character Team Award. The award was voted on by the men’s volleyball coaches and recognizes the sportsmanship displayed by the team in competition. Individually sophomore Jonathan Poortinga (Downers Grove, Illinois) was named to the All-Conference Second Team.  

Poortinga, a middle hitter, was a leader at the net for the Trolls. He led the team in blocks with a total 13 solo and 101 assisted blocks for the season. With 1.19 blocks per set, he not only led the conference but topped the NAIA stats as well. In addition, Poortinga led the team with a .363 attacking percentage and ranked second on the team with a 2.16 kill average. Overall he had 207 kills for the season.

Also receiving recognition are seniors Zach Fitch (Chino, California) and Austin Tafoya (La Mirada, California) as NAIA and CCAC Scholar-Athletes. Joining them on the CCAC Scholar-Athlete list are junior Ben Tocila (Palos Hills, Illinois) and sophomore Ryan Bakke (New Lenox, Illinois).
