Trolls Fall to Eagles in Three Sets

In the final home match of the regular season the Trolls hosted Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) on Senior Day. The Trolls needed a win to help their cause in the conference standings, but could not overcome the Eagles, who are ranked No. 9 in the NAIA. Trinity lost the match in three sets at 25-20, 25-19, and 25-17. The team is now 10-15 overall and 4-7 in the CCAC.

The Trolls came out strong and took a 6-2 lead early in set one.  The team could not keep up that pace and Robert Morris out-scored the Trolls 14-to-6 to take over the lead at 16-12. The scoring gap remained a handful of points for the rest of the set and the Trolls fell 25-20.

Trinity fell behind early in the second set and was down at 12-4. Behind a four point run they pulled to within 12-8.  They fought to come back, but could not get close the gap. In the end they took the six point loss.

The team again started in a deficit in the third set and trailed at 9-4. The Trolls pulled to within two points at 11-9, but Robert Morris scored the next three points to make it five point difference.  Again the Trolls could not make up the difference and ended with the 25-17 loss.

For the match the Trolls had 26 kills and the Eagles had 38. Trinity finished with eight blocks and five ace serves. The Trolls were led by Eddie Binion with 12 kills and three aces. Jonathan Poortinga had five blocks and Danny Lawrence had four to go with his 11 assists. Austin Tafoya had 11 assists and six digs.

The Trolls will play in their final regular season match at Saint Xavier University on March 27 at 7 pm.
