Trolls Defeated by Cougars
As the conference schedule enters its final week of the regular season, the Trolls faced Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois). Trinity could not get a much needed win and fell to the Cougars in three sets. The Trolls lost ground in each set with final scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-15. The team is now 8-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
The first set was close and the teams were tied 12-12 midway through play. Saint Xavier scored the next three points to take the lead that they did not give up. Trinity was still within striking distance at 21-19, but lost the final four points for the 25-21 loss.
The Trolls held close with the Cougars through the first part of the seconds and were within two at 14-12. Though they lost some ground they were within four points at 21-17. However they gave up the next four points to lose by eight.
The third set got lopsided early when Saint Xavier posted five points in a row to stretch a 7-5 lead to a 12-5 gap. The Trolls could not make up the difference and slowly let the deficit increase and the set ended in a 25-15 loss.
For the match Trinity had 21 kills and Saint Xavier had 40. The Trolls had a total of 31 digs and three blocks. Eddie Binion led the team with seven kills and seven digs. Ben Tocila ended with five kills, Mike Karl had nine digs, and Danny Lawrence had 16 assists.
The team plays next on March 30 in a home match with Robert Morris University Illinois at 7 pm.
