Student-Athlete Spotlight: Eddie Binion

Eddie Binion ’19 is a second year player on the Trolls’ men’s volleyball team.  The Chicago native has worked very hard to get to where he is at with volleyball team. For this season he has played in 14 matches and started in five of those. Moving to an outside hitting position, he is currently averaging 1.45 kills per set.   A year ago as a member of the inaugural men’s volleyball team, he averaged 0.62 blocks per set at middle blocker.  In addition to his skill on the court, Eddie brings hard work and a positive spirit to the team.

The volleyball court is not the only place where Eddie is involved.  He is a very active member of Trinity’s community and has made a large impact on the campus in his two short years.  He uses his passion for music as a member of the Outcry Worship team and is known to sing the national anthem before athletics contests.   Eddie uses his leadership abilities as a sophomore representative in Student Association as well in the Nursing Student Organization.  In addition he is a part of the Student Activities team. After the volleyball season this spring Eddie will join the track and field team to use his gifts in that sport.

Eddie’s love for people and his hard work ethic extends into his career choice as well. He is studying nursing with hopes of becoming a traveling nurse in order to help those in need all around the world.

Get to know Eddie better:
What is your major and minor?  I am a nursing major, one of only two males in my entire class.

Where is your hometown?  I am from this crazy place called Chicago, where the weather is never consistent.

Why did you choose Trinity?  I chose Trinity because all of the signs were pointing to it. I get to play volleyball, meet a ton of really cool people, and I love the fact that it was such a small school. There are not even enough words that I could fit on this page to explain the many reasons.

What is your favorite part about Trinity?  My favorite part about Trinity is how nice the people are. They are willing to go out of there way to ask you how your day is. This shows the character and community of the school.

What is your favorite athletics memory as a Troll? My favorite memory as a Troll was hanging out with my team for the first time. We all slept in the basement of West Hall, got pizza, played video games all night, and just had quality team time. We went to bed at around 5 a.m. even though we all had to wake up three hours later because of an early morning practice.

What do you plan on doing after graduation?  I plan on traveling around the world and helping people in other countries as a traveling nurse. I want to be able to say I've been to every country around the world. I plan on documenting my travels in pictures and video. If I get an opportunity to sing in front of thousand that could be an option.

What is your favorite pre-game ritual?  Surprisingly I don't have one. I just never got into that aspect of sports. I just make sure I'm happy and ready to go on the court and have fun and work hard with my team.

What is your favorite Trinity tradition?  I love that they have a FYF. Honestly it is some of the best times you will have in your life. You get to know so many people in so little time. I grew super close to someone, Mike Karl, who I now consider my “brother from another mother”.
