Team effort leads to Trolls' win over Tigers

The Trinity women’s volleyball team was back in the DeVos Gymnasium to face the Olivet Nazarene Tigers in a CCAC matchup.

Last year, the Trolls beat the Tigers both times they faced, and this year, Trinity proved the same result, beating Olivet in three straight sets.

In the first set, the two teams kept it close, but a scoring run from the Trolls with junior Anna Maatman serving helped push the Trolls ahead, winning the first set 25-14.

The second set led to a similar fate for the Tigers, except senior Dani Van Laten and sophomore Sarah Kiwan were at the service line for the Trolls. Trinity kept a good lead on the Tigers, winning the second set 25-13.

The third set was a closer match, but the Trolls still came out victorious. The two teams were neck and neck through most of the match, but Trinity took the lead late in the third set and ran with it, securing the match with a 25-21 win.

Three Trolls finished with eight kills, including Maatman, senior Ana Lambros and junior Britta Heggeland. Sophomore Nicole Belcher registered three blocks on the night and Van Laten had 27 assists.

The Trolls will face CCAC opponent Saint Xavier on Thursday at home, with the match beginning at 7 p.m.
