Post-Season Honors for Volleyball Athletes

With the conclusion of the volleyball season and conference awards already announced, a number of team members have received additional post-season honors. These awards were given at the national level by the NAIA and at the regional and national level by the NCCAA.

Highlighting the list are the NAIA and NCCAA All-American honors. Junior right-side hitter Kacie Stoll (Lombard, Illinois) and junior setter Dani Van Laten (Westmont, Illinois) earned the national recognition for both associations.  Stoll was named to the NAIA Third-Team and Van Laten received Honorable Mention. Both of these players also were First-Team NCCAA All-American.

Stoll, who ended the season with a 3.86 kill average, a 2.81 dig average, and a 0.80 block average, was also named to the NCCAA North Central All-Region Team and selected as the Region Player of the Year. It was Stoll’s four selection to the All-Region Team.

For the second year in a row, Van Laten was also a member of the NCCAA All-Region Team.  For the season she averaged 10.0 assists per set, 3.08 digs per set, and had 43 ace serves.

Also making the NCCAA All-Region Team was sophomore Brianna Figueroa (Hammond, Indiana). The libero led the team with 5.07 digs per set and accumulated 745 digs for the season.  She also handled 809 service receptions with a .932 percentage.

Coach Bill Schepel, in his 12th season as head coach, was named the North Central Region Coach of the Year.  He led the team to a 30 win season and a NAIA National Championship appearance. It is the seventh time Schepel has received this coaching honor.

In addition to these honors, six team members earned scholar-athlete recognition.  Van Laten and junior Courtney Sullivan (Riverside, California) are NAIA, NCCAA, and CCAC Scholar-Athletes. While senior Alysia Folkersma (Buckley, Michigan), and sophomores Anna Maatman (Lynwood, Illinois), Danielle Zander (Thornton, Illinois), and Britta Heggeland (Wheaton, Illinois) made the CCAC list.
