Trolls Lose to No. 4 Missouri Baptist The Trolls started play their pool play in the NAIA National Championship at the Tyson Center in Sioux City, Iowa with match against Missouri Baptist University (St. Louis, Missouri). The team fought hard against the No. 4 Spartans, but fell in three sets.  After a close first set at 25-20, the team stumbled in the second set for a 25-13 loss. Trinity came back strong in the third set, but lost at 25-21. The match was the first of three the Trolls will play in their pool.

In the opening set the Trolls committed some early errors and fell behind by as many as five points. Down at 14-9, the team slowly climbed back in and on a block by Ana Lambros and Christa Veenstra they tied the score at 17-17. The teams were deadlocked three times after that point, however at 20-20 the Trolls did not gain another point as Missouri Baptist closed out the set.

After a slow start to the second set the Trolls trailed at 7-2. They fought back to tie the set at 11-11, only to have Missouri Baptist rally off the next nine points to put the Trolls in a 20-11 deficit. The team gained only three more points in the set for the 12 point loss.

Trinity was not done as they rallied back in the third set and pushed the Spartans. The teams were separated by only a few points through most of the match and each had their share of the lead. A kill by Veenstra tied the score at 18-18, but Missouri Baptist scored the next two points to take the lead which they did not give up. Trinity pulled to within one at 21-20, only to fall behind at 24-20 and eventually take the 25-21 loss.

For the match the team had 31 kills with a .075 attacking percentage. Missouri Baptist 42 kills and a .259 attacking percentage. The Trolls have five blocks for the game while Missouri Baptist had eight.
Kacie Stoll and Sarah Kiwan each had eight kills and Veenstra ended with seven. Veenstra also led the team with four blocks. Brianna Figueroa had 16 digs while Dani Van Laten had 21 assists.

The Trolls will take on Hastings College (Hastings, Nebraska) at 12 pm on Wednesday, November 28.
