Trolls Get Quarterfinal Win

The No. 2 seeded Trolls started the CCAC Volleyball Tournament with a win over No. 7 University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois). Trinity avenged a late-season loss to the Saints with the three set victory in the first round of the tournament. The Trolls took the match with scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-18.

Trinity led the entire first set and built a 14-7 lead. The Trolls had a commanding lead at 21-11, but the Saints continued to fight and rallied off four points to close to 21-15. The Trolls were still ahead by six at 24-18, but once again St. Francis did not let up and held the team for the next three points to close to within three before Trinity closed the set at 25-21.

The Trolls started strong in the second set and jumped to a 9-2 lead as they scored six consecutive points on kills. Trinity continued to maintain to sizable scoring gap and was went ahead at 21-11. Once again the Saints finished strong and made the Trolls fight for their final points. Eventually Trinity finished with the 25-17 win.

Another early serving run in the third set gave the Trolls the lead at 7-5. Trinity continued to pull ahead and was up by seven points at 15-8. The scoring gap increased to eight before St Francis closed to within four at 20-16. That was a close as the Saints got as the Trolls finished out with the seven point win.

For the match Trinity had 41 kills with a .190 attacking percentage and St. Francis had 27 kills on a .036 attacking percentage. The Trolls had 53 digs and six blocks. Ana Lambros led the team with 11 kills and Kacie Stoll had 10. Stoll also had 13 digs and three blocks. Christa Veenstra led the blocks with five and Brianna Figueroa had 12 digs. Dani Van Laten posted a double double of 30 assists and 11 digs.

The Trolls advance to the semifinal match in which they will host No. 6 Indiana University-South Bend on November 9 at 7 pm.
