CCAC Player of the Week Honors for Van Laten and Zula

For the week of October 22-27 two Trinity volleyball athletes earned CCAC Player of the Week honors. Madysen Zula (Pella, Iowa) was the Defender of the Week and Dani Van Laten (Westmont, Illinois) was the Setter of the Week. It was the first honor for Zula and the fourth time Van Laten has received the recognition. 

Zula, a sophomore middle hitter, recorded a total of 21 blocks, two solo and 19 assisted, in the five matches of the week with no fewer than three blocks in each match.  She had a match high of six assisted blocks in a five set match at the University of St. Francis. Overall she averaged 1.40 blocks per set for the week. In addition Zula averaged 1.80 kills with a .404 attacking percentage.

Van Laten handed out a total of 160 assists for the week to bring her season total to over 1100 assists. For the five matches she averaged 9.41 assists and had a week’s high of 51 assists in the five set match with St. Francis. In that match she also had 20 digs.  She hit double digits in the dig category in four of the week’s matches for a 3.35 dig average. In addition, Van Laten tallied eight ace serves, 12 kills, and seven blocks.   

The Trolls posted a 3-2 record for the week, including a 3-1 record in the CCAC Crossover.  For the season the team is 23-8 overall while they are 13-2 in the conference and in second place. The team is also receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.
