Trolls Split in CCAC Crossover Action

The second day of action in the CCAC Crossover Tournament held at Saint Xavier University resulted in a win and a loss for the Trolls. The team started the day with a three set win over St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa) with scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-23. In their second match they faced Saint Xavier, the top team of the North Division, and fell in four sets at 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 14-25. The Trolls are now 23-8 for the season and 13-2 in the CCAC.

In the morning match with St. Ambrose the Trolls and the Bees battled and forth. Tied at 21-21 Trinity scored the next three points to take the lead. After giving up one point, the team gained the win on a St. Ambrose service error. The second match was also close until late in the match when Trinity pulled ahead. Tied at 17-17 the Trolls only gave up one more point to grab the 25-18 win.  In the final set the Trolls trailed until the gained a 20-19 edge. The team took over at that point and did not give up another point as they finished out on five straight kills.

For the match the Trolls had 38 kills with a .276 and St. Ambrose had 41 kills with a .164 attacking percentage. The team had 59 digs and seven blocks. Kacie Stoll led the team with 13 kills and 12 digs. Sarah Kiwan had 11 kills. Madysen Zula accounted for four blocks.

The Trolls started out well with a win in the first set. They took over the lead midway through the set and reached set point at 24-20. Saint Xavier held them for three points, before a kill by Stoll ended the game. Trinity took the early lead, but the teams were soon deadlocked and were tied multiple times. With a 21-21 tie, the Cougars scored the next three points to take the lead and eventually take the 25-22 win.

Trinity fell behind 9-2 in the third set and never recovered. In the send they lost 25-19 and fell behind in the match. The pattern was the same in the fourth set as the Trolls trailed at 9-4. They could not make up the difference and continued to fall further behind as they lost 25-14.

The Trolls ended the match with 48 kills on a .216 attacking percentage. Saint Xavier had a total of 61 kills and hit at .303 percent. Stoll had 12 kills and Kiwan had 11.  Brianna Figueroa led the back row defense with 22 digs and Madysen Zula led the front row defense with five blocks.

The team plays next on October 30 at home against Olivet Nazarene University at 7 pm.
