Christa Veenstra Named NAIA National Defender of the Week

Senior middle hitter Christa Veenstra was named the NAIA National Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week for October 8-13. The honor came after a week in which the team posted four wins, including two against NAIA Top 25 teams. Veenstra earned the recognition as she recorded 18 assisted and one solo blocks for a 1.45 block average for the four matches.

Veenstra had no fewer than three blocks in each of the team’s four matches of the week. She had the week and her season high of eight again No. 20 Bellevue University (NE). In addition Veenstra had 18 kills for the week.

The team’s matches for the week included a three set conference win over Governors State University (IL) and three wins in the Grand View University (IA) Invitational. In the weekend tournament they defeated No. 20 Bellevue in four sets, No. 18 University of St. Francis (IN) in three sets, and MidAmerica Nazarene University (KS) in three sets. With the victories the team is 19-6 overall, undefeated in the conference at 9-0, and has moved into the NAIA Top 25 at No. 21.

For the season Veenstra leads the team and the conference with a 1.00 block average with a total of 10 solo and 61 assisted blocks.  She also adds 1.66 kills per set with a .256 attack percentage.
