Trinity Defeats Titans

With a road conference win the Trolls make it a perfect ten as they improve to 10-0 in the conference and extend their winning streak to ten matches. The team, which moved into to the NAIA Top 25 ratings at No. 21 this week, kept their conference record unblemished with a four-set victory at Indiana University-South Bend. The match scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-17. The Trolls are 20-6 for the season.

The Trolls had no fewer than 15 kills in each set and posted 16 more kills than the Titans for the match. In the first set Trinity committed only three attacking errors in their 44 attempts.  The team posted a six point run to build a 14-7 lead. The Titans closed to within one point at 19-18, but Trinity finished strong for the 25-19 win.

The second set was close the entire time and the score was tied multiply times, including at each point from 19-19 to 24-24. The Titans reached set point at 24-23, but a kill by Christa Veenstra kept the set alive. IU-South Bend came back with a kill to go ahead and finished the set on a block to even the match at 1-1.

After tight start in the third set the Trolls started to pull away and took an 18-11 advantage. They did not let the Titans back into the set and regained control of the match with the win.

In the fourth set the Trolls again took control of the score midway through the set. They went ahead by five points at 16-11 and maintained the scoring distance. The Trolls reached match point at 24-16 and gave up one point before finishing on a kill by Anna Maatman.

The team had 63 kills for the match with a .238 attacking percentage and posted six blocks. Five players were in double figures in kills with Kacie Stoll leading the charge with 15 kills while Madysen Zula had 12. Stoll also added 23 digs and three blocks. Veenstra led the block category with four. Brianna Figueroa had a total of 28 digs and Dani Van Laten had 53 assists.

The Trolls play next on October 23 at the University of St. Francis at 7 pm.
