Trolls Defeat Jaguars

The Trolls started the second round of conference play with a victory at Governors State University (University Park, Illinois). The team easily took the first set at 25-10 and finished the match in the next two sets at 25-22 and 25-21. With the victory the team has won their last six matches and they are undefeated in the CCAC at 9-0. Overall the Trolls are 16-6.

A nine point serving run by Brianna Figueroa early in the first set gave the Trolls a 12-2 lead.  They never let Governors State into the set as they still led by 10 at 20-10. Trinity rallied off the final five points for the win.

The score in the second set was much closer.  The Trolls did not take the lead for good until they went ahead 19-18 on a Jaguar attacking error. Governors State briefly tied the set at 21-21, but the Trolls scored the next three points to take control again. The Jaguars gained one more before Trinity finished the set.

Figueroa was effective at the service line again at the start of the third set and got the Trolls off to a 7-2 start.  The team went ahead at 12-5, but Governors State slowly gained ground to tighten the score at 15-14.  Trinity created some space with a seven point gap at 22-15. The Jaguars fought back in, but the Trolls closed out with the four point win.

For the match the team had 36 kills with a .214 attacking percentage. The Jaguars had 22 kills and hit at .044 percent. Kacie Stoll ended the set with a double double of 18 kills and 11 digs. Defensively at the net Christa Veenstra had five blocks. Dani Van Laten ended with 11 digs and 22 assists. Figueroa had six aces for the match.

The Trolls play on October 12-13 in the Grand View University Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
