Trolls Take Titans in Four Sets

In their second conference match of the season the Trolls hosted Indiana University-South Bend.  Trinity had a slow start and dropped the first set with a score of 25-23. As the match progresses they gained momentum and won the next three sets at 25-19, 25-22, and 25-15. With the win the team is 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the CCAC.

The Titans rallied off the first five points of the match to establish a lead and to make the Trolls play catch-up.  Trinity did just that when they scored five straight points to change a 17-13 deficit to an 18-17 lead. The team maintained the advantage until the Titans tied the score at 23-23 and scored on two kills to snatch the win.

In the second set the Trolls gained the early lead and maintained it throughout the set. They stayed a handful of points in front of the Titans and ended with the six point win.

Trinity kept that momentum into the third set and jumped out to a 9-3 lead. The Trolls still had a sizable lead at 22-13, but IU-South Bend rolled off the next four points to close the gap. Trinity reached set point at 24-18 only to be held there for the next four plays as the Titans pulled to within 24-22. The Trolls finally got the win on a service error by the IU-South Bend.

The final set belonged to the Trolls as they posted an 8-3 lead and did not allow the Titan back into the set. The team sent ahead at 19-13 and only gave up two more points while they finished out with six more for the win.

Overall Trinity had 57 kills for the game and a .238 attacking percentage. IU-South Bend ended with 50 kills and a .139 attacking percentage. The Trolls registered 5.5 blocks and 77 digs and the Titans had six blocks and 85 digs. Trinity was led by Ana Lambros with a career high 20 kills. She committed only three errors in her 38 attempts for a .447 attacking percentage. Kacie Stoll recorded 14 kills. Anna Maatman led the defensive with 20 digs while Lambros had 17. Dani Van Laten had 45 assists and three aces.

The Trolls play next on September 14 in a non-conference match at Saint Xavier University at 7 pm.
