Trolls Open CCAC Schedule with Victory

In their conference opener the Trolls hosted Governors State University (University Park, Illinois).  After an 11 day break from completion, Trinity started out slowly but gained momentum as the match progressed. The Trolls took the match in three set with scores of 27-25, 25-19, and 25-12.  The team is 3-2 for the season.

The Trolls struggled to find their rhythm in the first set and battled to the wire with the Jaguars. Only a couple of points separated the teams throughout the first part of the set until the Trolls took a 17-14 lead. Trinity had a 20-16 advantage only to have Governors State tie the score at 20-20. The teams were deadlocked at each point after until 25-25. With kills by Kacie Stoll and Anna Maatman the Trolls were able to break the cycle and finish with the win.

Trinity trailed through most of the first part of the second set. A couple of serving runs allowed the Trolls to tie the set at 15-15. On the next play they took the lead on a kill by Stoll and did not relinquish the top spot after that point.  With a 20-19 lead Trinity rallied off the next five points for the win.

A serving run by Dani Van Laten to start the third set gave the Trolls a 6-0 lead. Trinity continued to take control of the set and pull away from the Jaguars. The team went ahead at 21-9 and eventually finished the set on a kill by Britta Heggeland.

For the match the Trolls had 42 kills with a .276 attacking percentage. Governors State had 28 kills with a .150 attacking percentage. Maatman led the team with 12 kills and Stoll had 11. The Trolls also had nine ace serves with Van Laten claiming three. Defensively Brianna Figueroa led the team with 14 digs, Stoll had 13, and Maatman had 10.

The Trolls play in a tournament at Viterbo University on September 7-8.
