Trolls Advance to Championship Match

In a semifinal match of the CCAC Tournament the No. 1 Trolls hosted No. 4 Cardinal Stritch University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). The first two matches were close, but Trinity came out on top at 25-21 and 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead. The Trolls commanded the third set for a 25-13 win to take the match and eliminate the Wolves from the tournament. Trinity advances to the championship match to face No. 2 Saint Xavier University on November 11 at 7 pm.

The first set started with a 4-0 run on a service ace and three kills for the Trolls. However the Wolves answered with the next six points to take over the lead. The teams remained close until Trinity stretched a 13-13 tie to an 18-13 lead. The Trolls maintained a scoring gap in the remainder of the set and finished with the 25-21 win.

In the second set the Trolls trailed through the first half of the set.  Behind 16-14, Trinity scored the next four points on three kills by Kacie Stoll and one by Danielle Oeverman.  They built on that lead and went ahead at 22-17 and eventually put the set away on a kill by Christa Veenstra.

With the momentum the Trolls took over in set three.  On a scoring run with Ana Lambros at the service line, Trinity went from a 9-5 lead to a 16-5 lead.  Another five point run later in the match gave the Trolls a 23-9 advantage. Cardinal Stritch scored the next four points to prolong the set, but followed with two errors to give the Trolls the win.

For the match Trinity had 41 kills on a .257 attack percentage and Cardinal Stritch had 27 kills with a .074 attack percentage.  The Trolls also had eight blocks and 51 digs. Stoll and Lydia Smits each ended the match with 10 kills and eight digs. Oeverman ended with six blocks. Brianna Figueroa had 14 digs and Dani Van Laten had 11 to go with her 34 assists.

The Trolls will host Saint Xavier University in the championship match on November 11 at 7 pm.
