Trinity Moves By Roosevelt

The Trolls started play in the CCAC Tournament with a home match against Roosevelt University (Chicago, Illinois) in the quarterfinal round. No 1 Trinity won the match, but needed four sets to defeat the No. 8 Lakers.  The Trolls took set one at 25-16, gave up the second set at 26-24, and then closed out the match with 25-14 and 25-21 wins in the next two sets. The team advances to the semifinal round on November 9.

It took a little while for the Trolls to find their rhythm in the first set, but a six point scoring run helped them take a 12-6 lead.  Once they had that scoring gap they did not let it go and took the nine point win.

The Trolls trailed by a slim margin through most of the second set and could not get the edge to take over the lead. They tied the game at 21-21 and at each point after until it was 24-24. A service error put the Lakers at set point and they took  the set on a kill.

Trinity recovered in the third set and went back on top of the scoreboard.  A five point run early in the set gave them a 9-4 lead. They followed with a six point run to make it a 15-8 score. The Trolls continued to add points and pull away for the 11 point win.

Roosevelt led throughout the early portion of the fourth set, but the Trolls took over the lead at 11-10 and never gave it back. They stretched the gap to five points at 18-13, but Roosevelt fought back to close in to 19-18. The Trolls held them off and finished the set at 25-21.

For the match Trinity had a total of 54 kills and a .246 attacking percentage. Roosevelt had 43 kills and a .139 percent. Kacie Stoll led the team with 15 kills and 14 digs. Danielle Oeverman had 13 kills and Lydia Smits had 11. Brianna Figueroa recorded 20 digs and Smits had 17. Dani Van Laten had 44 assists and Christa Veenstra had four blocks.
