Trolls Handle RedHawks

The final match of the regular season schedule ended in a three set victory for the Trolls as they hosted Indiana University-Northwest (Gary, Indiana). Trinity posted scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-17 for the win. The team got contributions for a large number of players. With the win the Trolls close out their regular season on a seven match winning streak and are 25-11 overall.

The Trolls took the lead from the start in the first set and continued to pull away from the RedHawks.  Trinity doubled IU-Northwest’s score at 12-6 and went ahead by double digits at 22-11. After giving up one point the Trolls closed out with the final three points for the win.

In the second set the score got lopsided early as Trinity took a 10-2 lead. They held the RedHawks in single digits until a 22-10 lead. Again the Trolls finished with a double-digit win.

The third set was closer in score, but the Trolls held the lead. They eventually took a 19-11 lead and reached set point at 24-15. The RedHawks extended the set for two more points before the Trolls ended the set and match.

For the match Trinity had 39 kills with a .289 attack percentage and IU-Northwest had 17 kills. Leading the Trolls was Melanie Belstra with seven kills while Alysia Folkersma had six.  Dani Van Laten and Juliana Dykstra ended with 13 assists each. Brianna Figueroa had the match high 24 digs.

The Trolls begin play in the CCAC Tournament on November 7.  As the No. 1 seed they will host No. 8 Roosevelt University in a 7 pm quarterfinal match.
