Trinity Keeps Streak Alive

The Trolls keep their conference streak alive with nine straight CCAC wins. The latest victory occurred at home against Governors State University (University Park, Illinois). Trinity took the match, which starts the second round of play against teams in the South Division, in four sets at 25-11, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-4. The team is now 16-7 overall and 9-0 in the CCAC.

The Trolls used 15 different players throughout the match. In the first set Trinity took the led from the start and continued to add points by the handful. They posted an 18-10 lead and only gave up one more point before securing the 25-11 win. The last ten points of the set were all scored on kills.

In the second set the Trolls once again took the top spot and, with a five point run by Maggie Tolsma, the team went ahead 9-4. Trinity continued to pull away and ended with the 11 point victory.

Changing up the line-up made the third set a tighter fight. The Trolls fell behind midway through the set only to briefly tie it at 17-17. Governors State scored the next two points to take the lead again and the Trolls could not close the gap as the set ended at 25-22.

The fourth set was completely controlled by the Trolls. On a 10 point run with Brianna Figueroa at the service line the Trolls took a 13-2 lead. They rallied off another four points to go ahead 17-3. After giving up one points they Trolls finished the game with eight straight points with Amber Ryan serving. In that final stretch Danielle Oeverman had four kills and a block assist.

For the match the Trolls ended with 58 kills and a .403 attacking percentage. Governors State had 23 kills. Oeverman led the team with 15 kills behind a .609 hitting percentage. Anna Maatman had 10 kills and Melanie Belstra and Lydia Smits each had 10. Dani Van Laten recorded 25 assists, Alexa Wright had 11 and Juliana Dykstra had 10. Brianna Figueroa ended with 16 digs, Smits had 14, and Tolsma had 13.

The Trolls play on October 13-14 in the Grand View University Invitational.
