Van Laten and Figueroa Receive Weekly Honors

Recording four conference wins to remain undefeated in the CCAC, the Trolls had two players earn Player of the Week recognition for October 2-7. Sophomore setter Dani Van Laten (Westmont, Illinois) was the CCAC Setter of the Week and the NCCAA Division I Volleyball Player of the Week and freshman libero Brianna Figueroa (Hammond, Indiana) was the CCAC Defender of the Week. It is the second time this season these athletes have earned weekly honors.

For the four matches, Van Laten had a total of 143 assists in 12 sets for an 11.9 assist average. She helped the team to a .253 attacking percentage with a 14.2 kills per set.  She had a match high for the week of 54 assists against Judson University (Elgin, Illinois) in a four-set win.  

In addition to the assists, Van Laten had an all-around performance with a 2.08 dig average, six blocks, six aces, and eight kills. For the season she averages 10.0 assists per set, leads the team with 39 aces, and ranks third is dig average at 2.64. In the conference she ranks second in assist average and in service ace average.

In the week’s action Figueroa led the team in digs in each of the four matches. She recorded a total of 78 digs for a 5.57 average in 14 sets.  Her match high for the week was 26 digs against Judson. Overall her defensive efforts helped in keeping the opponent’s attacking percentage to .105 percent.  Figueroa also recorded a .973 serve reception percentage for the week with only two errors in 73 attempts.  

For the season she leads the team and ranks fourth in the CCAC with a 4.79 dig average. She also has a .934 reception percentage.

For the week the Trolls defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana) in three sets. In the CCAC Crossover Tournament they beat Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) in three sets, and Roosevelt University (Chicago, Illinois) and Judson in four sets each. The team is 15-7 overall and 8-0 in the CCAC.
