Trolls Cruise by Redhawks

In a non-conference match the Trolls played at Indiana University-Northwest (Gary, Indiana). Trinity took the match in three sets while more than doubling IU-Northwest’s score in the final two of the sets. The first set was a 25-17 final and then the Trolls eased to 25-10 and 25-11 wins in the next two sets. The team is now 11-7 overall.

The Trolls took the lead in the first set and continued to stay on top throughout the set. They had a 13-10 advantage that they stretched to an 18-11 lead. The teams traded points to get to 22-15 and the Trolls eventually finished out at 25-17.

In the second set Trinity allowed the Redhawks to gain points only one at a time. With a 9-5 lead, the Trolls went on a nine point run with Courtney Sullivan on the serving line to surge ahead at 18-5. From there the team finished for the 25-10 win.

Trinity jumped to a 6-1 lead on a Lydia Smits serving run. Later in the set Smits put together another run from the service line to change a 15-9 lead to a 23-9 lead.  Each team gained two more points before the set ended.

For the match the Trolls had 37 kills with a .277 attacking percentage. Kacie Stoll led the way with 13 kills and Smits had 10. Smits was at the top of the dig column with 12 while Stoll had 10. Christa Veenstra was involved in four blocks and Dani Van Laten had 30 assists.

The team plays next on October 3 in a home contest against Calumet College of St. Joseph at 7 pm.
