Maatman and Figueroa Named CCAC Players of the Week

The Trolls recorded two conference wins in the week of September 18-23 and earned two CCAC Volleyball Player of the Week honors in the process.  Freshman outside hitter Anna Maatman (Lynwood, Illinois) was named the Attacker of the Week and freshmen libero Brianna Figueroa (Hammond, Indiana) was the Defender of the week.

Maatman led the team in kills for the week with a 3.50 kill per set average.  In the five-set match with Olivet Nazarene University she tallied 12 kills and against the University of St. Francis she had the match high of 16 kills in the three sets. Against St. Francis she also recorded a .467 attacking percentage and she ended the week at .375 percentage with only four errors in her 64 attempts.

Maatman also helped her team out defensively with 3.12 digs per set. Against Olivet Nazarene she recorded 16 digs and she added another nine against St. Francis.



Figueroa anchored the team’s defensive as she tallied 50 digs for the week for a 6.25 dig per set average. In each of the week’s two matches she led the team in digs with 29 in the five sets with Olivet Nazarene and 21 in three sets with St. Francis. Her efforts in the back row helped hold the team’s opponents to a .088 attacking percentage.

In addition Figueroa recorded a .971 serve reception percentage in her 34 attempts. She also had a .971 serving percentage with one ace and only one missed serve in her 35 attempts.

For the week the Trolls defeated Olivet Nazarene in five sets and St. Francis in three sets to remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Overall the team is 10-7.
