Trinity Takes Saints in Three Sets

The Trolls keep their conference record perfect with a win at the University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois). With a line-up that included four freshmen, Trinity took the victory in three straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-23. The team is now 10-7 overall and 4-0 in the CCAC.

The Trolls took control of the first set on an eight point run with Brianna Figueroa at the service line. The team extended their 13-10 lead to a 21-10 advantage on that rally and finished out for the win.

The second set followed the same pattern as Trinity once again went from a 13-10 lead to a 21-10 lead. This time it was Lydia Smits on the service line. St. Francis outscored the Trolls 9-to-4 in the remainder of the set, but it was not enough to prevent the Trolls for taking the victory.

The third set was much closer, but for the most part the Trolls led on the scoreboard. They had a 15-9 lead that the Saints changed to a 19-17 score. Trinity continued to stay on top and reached set point on a block by Britta Heggeland and Smits. St. Francis held them for two points and closed to 24-23 before Trinity secured the final point for the win.

The Trolls ended the match with 45 kills behind a .254 kill percentage. St. Francis had 33 kills and a .103 kill percentage. Anna Maatman led the team with 16 kills with a .467 kill percentage. Christa Veenstra was also very effective with a .529 attack percentage in her in her seven kills. Kacie Stoll ended the match with nine kills. Figueroa led the team with 21 digs and Smits had 16. Dani Van Laten handed out 37 assists and added seven digs.

The Trolls play next on September 28 in a non-conference match at Indiana University-Northwest at 7 pm.
