Trolls Snag Win at IU-South Bend

The Trolls posted their second conference victory in a match at Indiana University-South Bend (South Bend, Indiana). It was a tight battle, but Trinity prevailed in each set to shut out the Titans. The Trolls finished the first two sets strong to overcome IU-South Bend and take 26-24 victories in both sets. The team finished out the match with a 25-22win in the third set. Trinity is 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the CCAC.

It was a slow start and a strong finish for the Trolls in the first set. After trailing 9-3 early in the set, they eventually tied the score at 16-16. The Titans stayed ahead and reached set point at 24-22, but the Trolls dominated the final points. Kills by Lydia Smits and Danielle Oeverman tied the set and then the pair teamed up for a block to give Trinity the lead. Kacie Stoll added the exclamation point with an ace serve for the 26-24 win.

The second set was tight the entire time.  Once again IU-South Bend had the opportunity to grab the win when they took a 24-21 lead. A kill by Smits gave the Trolls one point before the team scored the next four on errors by the Titans.

The Trolls took the early lead in the third set and, on a serving run by Stoll, they went ahead 12-6. The team maintained the scoring gap and was ahead 23-18. The Titans got the next three points to make it 23-21. Oeverman brought the Trolls to set point on a kill, and after giving up one point, Trinity finished on a kill by Ana Lambros.

Overall the Trolls had 37 kills for the match and IU-South Bend has 38. Both teams recorded six blocks. Oeverman led the team with 10 kills, a .389 attacking percentage, and three blocks. Stoll ended a well-rounded game with seven kills, 13 digs, two blocks, and two aces. Dani VanLaten had 30 assists and 13 digs and Brianna Figueroa had 15 digs.

The team plays next on September 15 in a non-conference match with Saint Xavier University at 7 pm.
