NCCAA National Coach of the Year
Coach Bill Schepel was named the 2016 NCCAA National Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The award, sponsored by the USMC, comes to Schepel after leading his team to a NCCAA National Championship title. He will formally be presented with the award on December 15 at the AVCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
This season, Schepel, in his 10th season as head coach, led the Trolls to a share of the conference regular season title, a NCCAA Region title, and a NCCAA national championship title. It is the second time in three seasons that the Trolls were the NCCAA champions with a national title in the 2014 season as well. It is also the second time Schepel has been named the AVCA NCCAA National Coach of the Year.
For the year Schepel directed the Trolls to a 31-15 overall record, with 16 wins in their last 18 matches. It is the sixth time in the past decade that he has led the team to 30+ wins in a season. With this year’s record, Schepel has accumulated a 290-138 career coaching record at Trinity.
On the team this season he had four players named to the CCAC All-Conference Teams, including Tori Mantel, the Player and Setter of the Year. In addition he had one NAIA All-America Honorable Mention and two NCCAA All-America recipients. Three players earned national scholar-athlete honors and another five were scholars at the conference level.
