NCCAA Honors Announced

Along with their NCCAA National Championship title, members of the volleyball team also received individual honors. In cooperation with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the NCCAA announced the All-America Teams that included senior Tori Mantel on the First-Team and senior Michelle Busscher on the Second-Team. In addition Coach Bill Schepel was the AVCA NCCAA National Coach of the Year.  Also garnering NCCAA honors was sophomore Kacie Stoll as the National Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Mantel, the team’s setter, finished the season with a 9.12 assist average and ranked in the top ten in the NCCAA in that statistical category. For the season she also led the team with 74 ace serves, was second in digs with a 2.87 average, and accumulated a total of 58 blocks.  It is her first All-America selection.

As the libero, Busscher ranked in the top six in the NCCAA in dig average and led the team’s defensive with 5.37 digs per set.  She also handled most of the team’s passing with a .961 reception percentage. On the service line she was .976 percent accurate with only 13 errors in 553 attempts. It is the second year in a row that Busscher has received All-America honors.  

Stoll was a very instrumental part of the team’s success all season, and especially at the national tournament.  In the Trolls’ five matches at the championship, Stoll, a right side hitter, led the team with 3.71 kills per set behind a .285 attacking percentage. She posted the most kills in four of the five matches and recorded 20 or more kills in two matches. In addition she recorded 21 blocks for the tournament for a 1.00 block average.
