Trolls Defeat Campbellsville

The second day of pool play at the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, brought another victory for Trinity. The top-seeded Trolls scored two goals in each half to post a 4-2 win over No. 5 Campbellsville University (Kentucky).  Trinity went ahead 2-1 at the half and increased their lead to 4-1 before the Tigers scored again for the 4-2 final. The Trolls are now 2-0 in their pool with one game to play.

It did not take long for the Trolls to take charge in the game when they got on the board four minutes into play.  Jessica Bianchi and Selah Hopkins paired up for the first time in the scoring for the day with Bianchi getting the goal on a Hopkins’ assist.

The duo connected again in the 28th minute when Hopkins fed Bianchi the ball and Bianchi took it up the wing and scored. Two minutes later Campbellsville came back to score to make it 2-1 at the half.

The Trolls struck early again in the second half with two goals in the first 12 minutes of the period. In the 51st minute Bianchi made it a hat trick as she dribbled through the defense and found the net. Hopkins was once again involved in the play with the assists. Seven minutes later the roles reversed as Hopkins was on the receiving end of the pass from Bianchi and scored the goal that put the team ahead at 4-1.

That fourth goal was quickly answered by Campbellsville when the Tigers score 30 seconds later.  That goal was the final one of the game for either team.

For the game Trinity ended with 12 shots of which nine were on-goal. Campbellsville had 13 shots with six on goal. Allyson Kranstz had four saves for the game.

The Trolls will finish their pool play in a game with Ottawa University-Arizona on Thursday, November 29, at 12 pm EST.
