Trolls Open NCCAA Championship with Win

The Trolls had a good start at the NCCAA National Championship at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Florida with an 8-2 win over Columbia International University (Columbia, South Carolina). The Trolls went ahead 3-0 in the first half, but Columbia Rams closed the gap for a 3-2 half-time score. Trinity took over in the second half and added six more goals to cruise to the lopsided victory.

Jessica Bianchi and Selah Hopkins teamed up to create a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. Bianchi scored the first goal in the 16th minute on an assist from Hopkins. Bianchi returned the favor five minutes later when she one-touched the ball to Hopkins for the goal.

The Trolls created a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute when Brianna Uhl got into the scoring action. However before the half was over Columbia International found the net twice to make is a 3-2 half-time score.

In the second half the Trolls took 27 shots and took over the scoring. Jessica Owen got things started 11 minutes into the half with a goal on an assist by Shaelyn Postmus. The next three goals for Trinity came in a two minute stretch with Bianchi involved in all three. At 78:13 she found the back post on an assist from Uhl. One minute later she finished a rebounded shot from Erika Perez. Then at 80:26 she assisted a goal that was scored by Elly Brummel.  At the end of the barrage the Trolls had 7-2 lead.

Before the game was over Trinity added on final goal as Hopkins got her second of the game on another assist for Uhl.

Overall Trinity ended with 40 shots for the game and Columbia International had six. Allyson Kranstz was in the goal with two saves and Lindsey Dykema finished out the game.

The Trolls’ next game in on Tuesday, November 27, against No. 5 Campbellsville University at 12 pm EST.
