Trolls Claim NCCAA Region Championship Title

For the third time this season the Trolls and the Trojans of Trinity International University match-up at the Schaaf Athletics Complex. This latest contest was in the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament championship game. As was par for these teams, they battled through regulation and pushed into overtime before a decision was made. Seven minutes into the first overtime period the top-seeded Trolls got the golden goal to claim the 1-0 victory.

It was another intense fight and evenly contested game for these teams. In the first half the Trolls had seven shots and the Trojans took three. At the intermission the score remained 0-0.

Both teams pushed hard in the second half to gain the advantage. Midway through the period the Trolls had a great scoring opportunity on a break-away, but they were denied a goal. By the end of regular neither team had found the net and the game moved into an extended period.

Midway through the overtime period Trinity International took two back-to-back shots to put the pressure on, but neither found the mark. In the 97th minute Selah Hopkins took a long hooking shot from the left side. The Trojan goalkeeper initially stopped the shot, but then the ball slipped away from her and rolled into the net to give the Trolls the game winner.

For the game Trinity had 19 shots of which 10 were on-goal. Trinity International had 11 shots with four on goal. Allyson Kranstz had four saves.

The Trolls will advance to the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, on November 26-December 1. The tournament qualifiers and schedule will be released on November 19.
