Trolls Cruise Through Quarterfinal Round

The No. 1 seeded Trolls started their post-season play in a home game against No. 8 Judson University (Elgin, Illinois) in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.  The team scored early and posted a 4-0 lead at the half. In the second period they added another four goals to make it 8-0 shut-out win.  The team improves to 17-1 for the season.

Trinity took control of the game early with two goals in the opening ten minutes of the first half. Jessica Owen was the first to score when she finished a shot on a ball that rebounded off the goalkeeper from a previous shot by Jessica Bianchi. Less than a minute later Selah Hopkins scored on a pass from Owen.

A foul in the box at the 15 minute mark gave Hopkins her second goal on a penalty kick.  With less than a minute left in the period Brianna Uhl got into the scoring action to make it 4-0 at the break.

Ten minutes into the second period Bianchi sent a high arcing shot over the Judson keeper for the team’s fifth goal. Uhl fed the ball to Sara Shea in the 75th minute for yet another goal as the Trolls went up 6-0. Four minutes later Uhl dribbled by the defender and beat the goalkeeper to add Trinity’s seventh goal. With less than two minutes left in the game Drew McCarthy’s shot found the back of the net and the team finished with the 8-0 win.

The Trolls had 29 shots for the game with 24 of them on goal. Judson did not record a shot. Allyson Kranstz and Lindsey Dykema shared the shut-out in the goal.

Trinity will host a semifinal game on November 7 at 1 pm against the winner of the No. 4 Trinity International University vs No. 5 Olivet Nazarene University game.
