Trolls Roll by Saints

The Trolls, who moved to No. 18 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll, continue to march on as they post another victory in a conference match with Holy Cross College (Notre Dame, Indiana). Once again the team shut-out their opponent on a way to a lopsided victory at 6-0. Trinity scored twice in the first period and added four goals in the second period.  The Trolls are 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the CCAC.

The scoring started early for the Trolls when Selah Hopkins took a long shot that arched over the goalkeeper’s head for a goal two minutes in to the game. The assist was credited to Jessica Bianchi. It was not until midway through the period that the Trolls got their second goal. Bianchi found the far post on a sharp angle from the end line. Trinity kept the Saints from taking a shot and it was 2-0 at the half.

A hand ball in the box by Holy Cross five minutes into the second period gave the Troll another scoring opportunity. Lexi Zambrano took the resulting penalty kick to give the team a 3-0 lead. Six minutes later Bianchi dribbled through the defense to find the back of the net for a four goal advantage.

The Trolls were not finished scoring as they gained their fifth goal from the foot of Miranda Kortenhoeven on a free kick.  Bianchi had the final say as she completed her hat trick with a goal on an assist from Erika Perez in the final two minutes of the game.

Trinity had a total of 23 shots for the game and Holy Cross had two.
