Trolls Defeat Tigers

On a day when the Trolls moved up to No. 21 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll, they also defeated conference rival Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois).  With a goal scored from a penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second period, the Trolls took the lead. It was that goal that proved to be the game winner with a 1-0 final. The win is the ninth shut-out of the season for Trinity and the first time the Trolls have defeated in the Tigers in the last six contests between these teams. The Trolls are now 12-0 for the season and 5-0 in the CCAC.

The entire game was an intense battle with both teams playing hard. The first half was very evenly matched as the Trolls had four shots and the Tigers had five. The defensive squads did a good job at breaking up the offensive attack of their opponent.  At the half the score remained 0-0.

Three minutes into the second period the Trolls were on the attack with the potential to score when a player was taken down in the box. In the resulting penalty kick, Jessica Owen fired the ball by the Tiger goalkeeper to put Trinity on the board.

Through the rest of the half the Trolls tried to increase their lead and gained the advantage as they took 12 shots in the period. The Tigers did what they could to tie the game, but only had three shots in the period.

Overall Trinity ended the game with 16 shots of which eight were on-goal. Olivet Nazarene had eight shots with three on-goal. Allyson Kranstz recorded the shut-out and had three saves.

The Trolls will take their perfect record into a game at Roosevelt University on October 6.
