Trinity Takes Down Wolves

The Trolls opened their conference schedule with one of the top teams of the conference as they hosted Cardinal Stritch University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). The last time these two teams met was in the CCAC tournament championship game a year ago. The action of today’s game was as intense as that final. The Trolls struck first, but trailed 2-1 at the half. Trinity came on strong in the second period and scored five goals to post the eventual 6-3 win. The team keeps their undefeated season alive with an 8-0 record.

In the first half of the game Trinity took only two shots of which one was the opening goal of the game. Nine minutes into action Selah Hopkins gave the team a lead when she took a short pass from Drew McCarthy and found the near post.

Trinity’s lead did not last long when the Wolves scored in the 11th minute to tie the game. Cardinal Stritch found the net one more time before the half to take a 2-1 half-time lead.

The Trolls took control of the second half and scored two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the period to regain the lead. Paige Rogers connected on an assist from Shaelyn Postmus to tie the game at 2-2 and three minutes later Jessica Bianchi gave the team the lead when she scored on an assist from Hopkins.

Cardinal Stritch was not finished and in the 68th minute they scored to tie the game at 3-3.  However the Trolls stifled that momentum when Hopkins scored on a shot from the far right wing less than a minute later.

Trinity continued to attack and the game swung even more in their favor when Jessica Owen found an empty net on a pass from Brianna Uhl in the 80th minute for a 5-3 lead. The Wolves had the opportunity to pull to within one in the 85th minute with a penalty kick. However Allyson Kranstz came up with a big save to deny the goal.

Before the game was finished Trinity tacked on one more goal as Bianchi scored from Sara Shea for the 6-3 final

Each team ended the game with 10 shots of which eight were on-goal.  For the Trolls six of those on-goal shots went into the net. Hopkins led the team with two goals and one assist and Bianchi had two goals. Kranstz finished with five saves.

The team will play next on September 22 at Robert Morris University at 5:30 pm.
