Trolls Face Benedictine in Opening Round

The Trolls will make a trip to Atchison, Kansas, to face Benedictine University in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round on November 18 at 2 pm. The winner of the Opening Round game will advance with 16 other teams to the NAIA National Championship Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama, on November 27-December 2.

Trinity, 9-2 in the conference and the No. 2 seed, earned a bid to the Opening Round as the CCAC Tournament Champions with a win over Cardinal Stritch University in the championship game. Overall the Trolls are 19-2 and are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.  This national tournament appearance is the first for Trinity since the 2011 season.

Benedictine is 16-2-2 for the season and ranked No. 18 in the NAIA Top 25.  They finished in second place in their Heart of America Athletic Conference at 8-2-2 and earned a bid to the national tournament with a win over Graceland University in their conference championship game.  Benedictine is making their fourth straight appearance to the national championship, where they advanced to the quarterfinal round a year ago.  

The NAIA Opening Round consists of 30 teams playing at 15 sites. The winners of the first round games will join the host school of the University of Mobile at the Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama.  Those 16 teams will play in a single elimination tournament with the opening games on November 27 and the championship game on December 2.
